Job Details
One of the largest not-for-profit health care systems in the nation is seeking a movement disorder neurologist for their destinations neurosciences center in Western Michigan. For more than a decade, their Movement Disorders and Parkinson’s program has been delivering comprehensive cutting-edge care. Their program is a research partner of the Van Andel Research Institute and Michigan State University. They offer expert medical care for movement disorders with surgical insertion and programming of deep brain stimulation (DBS).
Hospital Center Highlights:
- 304 Beds
- Level II trauma center
- Comprehensive Stroke Center
- Level IV Epilepsy center with sEEG ( stereotaxic EEG) and cEEG ( continuous EEG)
- 6 bed EMU
- Up to 34 beds on our Neuro ICU floor, 32 bed Med surg/trauma/ ICU
- Infusion Center
- Joint Commission-accredited teaching hospital
Opportunity Highlights:
- 100% movement disorder volume, can offer general neurology as well, if interested.
- Robust support staff to include 3 movement and DBS trained RN’s, speech physical and occupational therapists, and social worker in the department
- 11-12 patient per day (60min new/30min follow-up) 8-16 patients per day on procedure days
- Call 5-6 times/year, starts Friday night at 5pm until Monday morning 7am – no stroke call
- Neurology residency program on site, 4 residents per year
- Plans to start a movement disorder fellowship
- Teaching interests welcomed
- Research available through partnership with the Van Andel Research Institute (a post-doctoral biomedical research and education facility) and Michigan State University
- Movement disorder fellowship required
- H1B sponsorship available
