Phoenix Children’s Division of Neurosurgery is seeking certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioners and/or Physician Assistants to join our growing program. Neuroscience experience is preferred but all applicants will be reviewed.
The Division of Neurosurgery at Phoenix Children’s is growing to support the needs of the Southwest and beyond. We are the largest pediatric neurosurgery program in the state of Arizona. We offer comprehensive and compassionate care and support for children and their families with known or suspected neurosurgical conditions. Our services include outpatient, inpatient and surgical care for the pediatric patient to include diagnostic and laboratory testing, imaging, and procedures. Our program serves as the main neurosurgery referral for a population of 7 million residents, of whom 1.5 million are in the pediatric age range.
This Advance Practice Provider (APP) role in Neurosurgery will have responsibility for the evaluation and team-based care of pediatric neurosurgery patients to include but not be limited to outpatient evaluations, inpatient consultations, and daily care as well as surgical first assisting. This role also has on call responsibilities on nights, weekends, and holidays (estimate 4 days/nights of call / month). Inpatient duties include, but are not limited to, rounding on all inpatients, attending to the needs of daily care, daily EHR documentation, communication with consultants, answering questions from collaborating teams, bedside RNs, rehabilitation providers, pharmacy, coordinating operative care, patient discharge, facilitating appropriate follow up for patients, and coverage during the day, as well as on call responsibilities. Further the APP will be a surgical first assistant in the neurosurgery cases. Outpatient responsibilities include independent assessment and care of a variety of conditions as well as participation in multidisciplinary clinics and satellite clinics.
Some multi-specialty care teams we are a part of include Spina Bifida, Skeletal Dysplasia, Complex Spine, Movement Disorder, Neuro-Oncology, Epilepsy, Concussion, Neuromuscular, Neurovascular and Cranial Facial.
Our clinical staff includes 5 physicians, 4 APPs, 1 RN, and 2 medical assistants. The clinical activities for the Division include approximately6,000 ambulatory visits, inpatient consultations, and inpatient subsequent visits in addition to 1,000 surgical cases annually.
The Neurosurgery Division covers seven satellite clinics (Scottsdale, East Valley (East Mesa), Mercy Gilbert, Arrowhead, Avondale, Flagstaff and Tucson), in addition to the outpatient and inpatient neurosurgery services on Main campus at Phoenix Children’s. In 2024 - 2025, we will expand our clinical team by 3 additional APPs and 1 – 2 additional surgeons. We truly work as a team and have daily virtual rounding as well as clinical conferences. In this way we aim to meet the growing needs of the growing pediatric patient population needs.
Phoenix Children’s main campus, located in the heart of Phoenix, is a full-service, freestanding, tertiary medical center, offering 483 licensed beds, 72 of which are dedicated to intensive care and 49 of which are NICU.
