Job Details

The Department Rutgers New Jersey Medical School is seeking highly qualified clinically-oriented Neurologists for multiple openings across numerous neurological subspecialties. These include: General Neurology with an interest in headache, Vascular Neurology / Stroke, Multiple Sclerosis, Cognitive Neurology, Neuromuscular / EMGs, and Epileptology (Adult and/or Pediatric).These positions complement our practice service lines in a large, community-based academic medical center. In partnership with a major health system in Northern New Jersey, we are seeking career-oriented, highly-motivated candidates who will be part of a dramatically growing clinical service. A summary of general duties is listed but not limited to the following:

  • Participate in Adult Neurology Call and weekend rounds at UH (approximate ratio 1:8).
  • Participate in Floor Service at UH (approximate ratio 1:5).
  • Supervise and provide care in at least one four-hour resident run UH ACC Clinic session per week.
  • Work closely with emergency physicians to care for patients coming in through the emergency room.
  • Educate and mentor fellows, residents, and medical students.
  • Develop an outpatient practice in both the faculty practice clinic as well as the hospital ambulatory clinic.
  • Participate in Community Outreach.
  • Research Activity and participation in clinical trials is encouraged.
  • Complete medical records and submit all charges timely.
  • Complete Medicare time studies and other documentation required in a timely fashion.
  • Fulfill any other duties that may be assigned by the Chair of the Department.
  • Educate and mentor residents and medical students.

Subspecialty specific duties:

General/headache:

  • Develop a Headache treatment focused outpatient practice.
  • Develop a clinical research focus within the Headache and/or Neurological Pain Management realm

Vascular:

  • Resume primary responsibility on the stroke service for up to 18 weeks and provide supervision to residents.
  • Respond to brain attack team (BAT Calls), including management of acute stroke patients.
  • Examine and monitor patients who may have suffered a TIA.
  • Work in collaboration with vascular surgeons, referring patients for surgery where necessary; and increasingly with interventional neuroradiologists, referring patients for clot retrieval therapy.
  • Assist the Director in developing hospital and community stroke services and education in stoke.

Multiple Sclerosis

  • Participate in UH Floor Service, Weekend Rounds and call as outlined above.
  • Develop a neuroimmunology focused outpatient practice.
  • Participation in clinical trials and scholarly activity.
  • Educate and mentor residents and medical students.

Cognitive

  • Participates in UH Floor Service, Weekend Rounds and call as outlined above.
  • Develops a cognitive neurology outpatient practice.
  • Collaborates with the Rutgers Alzheimer’s and Dementia treatment center.
  • Participation in clinical trials and scholarly activity Educate and mentor residents and medical students.

Neuromuscular / EMGs

  • Participates in UH Floor Service, Weekend Rounds and call as outlined above.
  • Weekly private practice patient hours which will include: One day per week dedicated to MDA Clinic; One day per week dedicated to EMG Lab; One and one half days dedicated to developing outpatient Neuromuscular Clinics.
  • Participation in research and scholarly activity; Educate and mentor residents, medical students and contribute to establishing a neuromuscular fellowship program.

Adult Epileptology

  • Participate in UH Floor Service, Weekend Rounds and call as outlined above.
  • Reads adult patient EEG reports for University Hospital (approximate ratio 1:3)
  • Supervise and provide care in at least one resident teaching epilepsy clinic.
  • Assist the Director in maintaining NAEC Certification.
  • Participation in research and scholarly activity.
  • Educate and mentor residents and medical students.

Pediatric Epileptology

  • Participate in Child Neurology Call and weekend rounds at UH (approximate ratio 1:4 )
  • Participate in Floor Service at UH (approximate ratio 1 :4)
  • Reads pediatric and adult patient EEG reports for University Hospital; Attending on the Pediatric Neurology Hospitalist Service at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center (1 weekend a month, 4 weeks per year)
  • Supervise and provide care in at least one resident teaching clinic.
