A large health care system in Florida is recruiting a Medical Director of Neurosciences to join and lead their 16-hospital system and serve as the physician responsible for creating and implementing the strategic and clinical priorities of the Neuroscience Service Line. You will oversee the employed neurosurgery and neurology teams, as well as work with the community physicians who partner with the system. The new director will work with key stakeholders across the system to improve care across the continuum, reduce clinical variation, eliminate unnecessary clinical services utilization, and promote evidence-based practice. The Medical Director partners with the VP, CMO and with the Chief Transformation and Service Line Officer, and other key leaders to set service line vision, goals, and objectives and monitor performance in support of organizational priorities.

This role will enjoy a 50% clinical and 50% leadership/administrative practice. Any subspecialty in neurosurgery or neurology can be supported, aside from pediatrics. They do not have a strong epilepsy program at this time and are willing to speak with candidates with this interest who are willing to develop this program. This role is to replace the outgoing Medical Director who will be retiring.

Duties to include:

  • Work with service line operational and clinical leaders to determine and recommend locations of service, comprehensive care centers, specialty specific physician recruitment, necessary clinical governance, and design and growth plans to meet organizational need
  • Responsible for oversight and performance of relevant neuroscience service line care pathways and standardizing service line specific clinical services (supply chain, pharmacy, etc.) to reduce cost and improve value
  • Work with medical staff across the system to develop and implement policies and procedures to achieve the health system and medical staff's mutual interests and responsibility for quality assurance, appropriate utilization review, process improvement, and clinical performance
  • In partnership with service line operational leaders, the Medical Director of Neuroscience develops and monitors appropriate operational efficiency
  • Establish performance domain standards pertaining to clinical outcomes and patient experience
  • Foster strong working relationships with leaders across the system and creates, articulates, and executes operational plans and objectives in support of service line priorities 

The ideal candidate will be a board-certified neurosurgeon or neurologist and possess executive leadership experience to include up to two years Medical Staff President and/or Director/CMO level. Preferred experience includes eight to ten years of service line medical director or similar medical staff leadership.
