Neurologist

The Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) is actively recruiting a full-time Neurologist to join the HSS Department of Neurology. This is a clinical position with teaching and academic responsibilities. Applicant must be an MD or DO who is BC/BE in Neurology, fellowship trained in neuromuscular medicine or clinical neurophysiology and experience in intraoperative monitoring of complex spine procedures.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Evaluate and treat inpatients and outpatients with neurological and neuromuscular diseases.
• Interpretation of routine EEG and evoked potentials studies.
• Participate in intraoperative monitoring service.
• Participate in inpatient neurology consult service and weekend/holiday calls.
• Provide teaching and supervisory duties for neuromuscular medicine fellows, residents, physician extenders, and clinical staff as directed by the Neurologist-in-Chief or representative.
• Provide administrative and patient care support as directed by the Neurologist-in-Chief, Physician-in-Chief and Chief Executive Officer of HSS.
• Participation in weekly HSS Neurology Grand Rounds, Journal Club, and other academic conferences, as well as regular Departmental meetings.
• Enhance the recognition and reputation of the Department of Neurology by lecturing, serving on committees, engaging in research initiatives, and/or writing academic papers.

Focusing on neuromuscular diseases, the Marcia Dunn and Jonathan Sobel Department of Neurology at HSS provides comprehensive, compassionate, and prompt care to patients with mobility disorders. The Department runs several clinics, including neuromuscular clinic, ALS/MDA clinic, movement disorder clinic, and concussion clinic. Our physicians are highly skilled and run multiple supporting services, including a large intraoperative monitoring service, a high-volume EMG lab, a Botox injection service, and a muscle, nerve, and skin biopsy service. The Department also runs the Hospital’s infusion center and has been working with HSS Pathology to develop a comprehensive neuromuscular pathology service. The Research Institute at HSS coordinates a broad program of research in musculoskeletal and rheumatologic diseases. Our neurologists participate in several multicenter studies of ALS, myasthenia gravis, and demyelinating neuropathy.
