The Department of Neurology at Boston University and clinical partner of Boston Medical Center (BMC) and Boston University School of Medicine (BUSM) is seeking a Board Certified or Board Eligible Neurologist for our Concussion and Traumatic Brain Injury Program.

 

About the Position

Required Qualifications:

  • Candidates must hold an M.D. or D.O. degree. Fellowship training is preferred Neurology board certified or board eligible Subspecialty board certification or eligibility in a related area, such as Brain Injury Medicine, is desirable but not required Demonstrated commitment to encouraging and respecting diverse perspectives and opinions

 

Desired Qualifications:

  • Excellent clinical skills and interest in supporting the growth of Boston Medical Center and concussion/TBI research and education
  • Experience with grant applications and/or funded research opportunities is preferred
  • Innovation, teamwork, and positive energy are highly valued Unrestricted medical license to practice in Massachusetts Fluency in an additional language besides English is preferred but not required

 

The position offers an opportunity for program leadership and development. This is a full-time position. Salary structure and compensation plan are competitive for academic Concussion/TBI positions in Northeast academic medical centers.

About the Concussion and Traumatic Brain Injury Program

 

The Department of Neurology at Boston University has a long tradition of excellence in neurology and neuroscience. The Concussion and Traumatic Brain Injury Program at Boston Medical Center provides consultation for inpatients and outpatients with mild to severe traumatic brain injuries from multiple causes, including falls, motor vehicle collisions, assaults, work-related injuries, and sports-related injuries. Our board-certified neurologists care for patients longitudinally over the course of their recovery from acute care to post-acute care and outpatient follow up, in a variety of locations across Massachusetts, including Boston Medical Center, outpatient offices in Boston and Weymouth, and post-acute inpatient rehabilitation

facilities in Braintree and Framingham. Our Sports Neurology, CTE and TBI divisions have a special interest in managing athletes at any point in their careers, treating the long-term effects of traumatic brain injuries, including chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), where we are seen to be a world leader in innovative NIH-funded research.

Our TBI and Sports Neurology faculty are involved in the training and education of medical students, neurology residents, and fellows at Boston University Medical Center and other BU Neurology affiliated facilities. We also provide outreach programs for the neighborhood health clinics around Boston to educate primary care providers on proper initial evaluation and treatments for TBI, including sport-related neurological injuries. We also work with the Boston University Sports Medicine and Pediatric Neurology departments to identify the optimal management of concussion and post-concussion syndromes.

 

Of the many ongoing clinical research projects at Boston University, our TBI and Sports Neurology divisions are most involved with the DIAGNOSE CTE and HOPE studies which evaluate the causes and risks for memory and behavioral symptoms after repetitive head injuries, and the Framingham Heart Study, looking at epidemiology and longitudinal follow up of TBI. Our TBI faculty have been involved with multicenter trials and other national studies of persons with TBI.

 

The Concussion and Traumatic Brain Injury Program offers the following areas of expertise:

  • Concussion Moderate/severe TBI Post-Concussion Syndrome Post-traumatic headache and other pain syndromes Other post-traumatic neurological syndromes including whiplash injury, (craniofacial nerve compressions, and traumatic vestibular conditions Sinus and trauma-induced TMJ-driven pain syndromes Vestibular dysfunction Cognitive Impairment after TBI Behavioral dysregulation, mood, and other neuropsychiatric disorders after TBI Chronic traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE) and Traumatic Encephalopathy Syndrome (TES) Rehabilitation, recovery of function and return to activities after TBI
