Position description

The Department of Neurosciences (http://neurosciences.ucsd.edu/) at the University of California San Diego is committed to academic excellence and diversity for the faculty, staff, and student body and is seeking mid to senior level Neurology leaders for the Neuromuscular Division at UCSD/VA San Diego. We are ranked #1 in NIH funding amongst Neurosciences Departments, #5 amongst Neurology departments, and our Neurology/Neurosurgery care ranks #22 in the nation by US News and World Report rankings.

Selection will be made depending on leadership experience, overall experience, area of interest, and capacity for teambuilding. The environment offers exceptional opportunity for impactful contributions to care, research, and education.

Several leadership enhancement programs are available to bolster the candidate's trajectory and fulfillment in this position. Whether interests include education, research, quality improvement, population health, or broader administrative leadership, UC San Diego offers a wealth of training opportunities that one can pursue alongside their work as a neurologist. Training opportunities for physicians include the following: National Center of Leadership in Academic Medicine (NCLAM Program), Health Leadership Academy, Rady Health Sciences MBA Program, Clinical Research Enhancement through Supplemental Training (CREST Program), Hispanic Center of Excellence Training Program, Women's Initiative for Professional Development, and many more.

The selected candidate(s) will work with a group of adult neuromuscular neurologists involved in clinical care, clinical research and trials, basic research and education/teaching with our growing Neuromuscular Division. The UCSD Neuromuscular Division has a clinical base at the UCSD hospitals at Hillcrest, La Jolla, and VA as well as a program at Rady Children's Hospital San Diego - the largest pediatric hospital in California. The group's current strengths are in general neuromuscular neurology, ALS, muscle diseases, and clinical neurophysiology. There is an opportunity to develop programs in nerve diseases, genetics, or immune-mediated diseases although neuromuscular generalists or neuromuscular clinicians with interests in existing areas of expertise may apply. The neuromuscular division sponsors an ACGME accredited clinical neurophysiology fellowship, a fellowship in ALS Translational Research, and is developing an ACGME fellowship in neuromuscular diseases. There is an active rotation and conference schedule for the Neurology Residents.

The appropriate series and appointments at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professor levels will be based on the candidates' background and experience.
