Newark & New Brunswick, New Jersey - Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School (RWJMS), Rutgers New Jersey Medical School (NJMS), Newark University Hospital, and RWJBarnabas Health (RWJBH) seek a collaborative and distinguished academic neurosurgeon with experience as an outstanding academic leader and record of excellence in clinical practice to serve as the next Chair of Neurological Surgery and co-physician leader for the RWJBH Neurosciences Service Line. The Chair may be eligible for appointment to an endowed chair. This is a unique opportunity in a robust enterprise that has created a successful hybrid between academic medicine and community health care. Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, RWJBH, and Newark University Hospital have launched a partnership to jointly operate a world-class academic health system dedicated to life-changing research, clinical training of tomorrow's workforce, and high-quality health care for all. This partnership represents a significant step forward in improving access to care and reducing the health disparities that impact New Jersey and shaping the future of the health care delivery system.

The Department of Neurological Surgery is comprised of over 20 faculty, who provide comprehensive and nationally recognized clinical service across 8 Divisions, two medical schools campuses, and a complex academic health system. The Department collaborates clinically and scientifically across departments, campuses, service lines, Rutgers Health and RWJBH. In addition to outstanding education, training and research, Rutgers Health and RWJBH offer the most comprehensive neuroscience programs in New Jersey dedicated to the medical, surgical and psychological treatment of disorders of the brain and nervous system for children and adults with state-of-the-art facilities, advanced technology and innovative medical advancements.

The next Chair will lead the Department of Neurological Surgery and co-lead the Neurosciences Service line to further expand the geographic footprint of the Department in a manner that promotes the use of the latest surgical techniques, enhances patient access and achieves high quality patient care. This vision will be coupled with a unified strategy to further integrate neurosciences care across the system and strengthen relationships with external affiliates. The Chair will understand and foster an academic environment that promotes research and scholarly activity, and embrace the educational mission for learners, faculty and staff.

The Senior Vice President for Neurosurgery at RWJBH will be a co-physician leader of the RWJBH Neurosciences Service Line. In partnership with the system administrative team, this individual will provide leadership, strategy, and oversight over neurosurgical care for the health system. As a physician leader within the Neurosciences Service Line, the SVP of Neurosurgery will be expected to collaborate across multiple campuses with local neurosurgical teams to improve quality, integrate care, and align resources for the betterment of RWJBH patients.

The successful candidate will be an outstanding academic leader and respected researcher and clinician with demonstrated ability to effectively inspire, lead and mentor. In addition, the Chair will be an individual who has a passion for providing outstanding care, a desire to improve systems and processes to maximize efficiency, a leader who engages clinicians and holds them accountable, and possesses a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Women and underrepresented groups are encouraged to apply.
