Job Details

Henry Ford Health System’s Department of Neurology, located in southeastern Michigan, is seeking a Board-eligible/Board-certified Vascular Neurologist to join our team in Clinton Township, Michigan at Henry Ford Macomb Hospital.  We are looking for a Stroke Neurologist to become the director of the stroke center.  This is an opportunity to become the face of cerebrovascular care at this thriving community hospital, which is a Joint Commission certified Primary Stroke Center but is looking to expand services to fully thrombectomy capable. Duties will include co-development of the neuro-interventional program with an interventional neurologist who is expected to join in July 2021. Clinical duties will also include inpatient consults with an approximately 50-50 division between neurohospitalist and stroke duties. Providing some outpatient stroke services will be encouraged to maintain the continuity of care. Call duties for HF Macomb will be shared with the community neurologists and there will be an opportunity to take stroke call for HF Hospital, the tertiary referral and comprehensive stroke center in the health system.

In 2019, Henry Ford Macomb Hospital currently admitted 457 patients with ischemic stroke and 45 patients with hemorrhagic stroke. Currently, approximately 50+ acute strokes and aneurysms per year are transferred to HF Hospital in Detroit for treatment and the goal is to keep all patients at HF Macomb Hospital.

The hospital has a Siemens Biplane Neurointerventional Suite, full CTA and CTP capabilities with the latest automated and artificial intelligence imaging platforms for patient triage. There is a full ICU and the plan is to grow neuro-ICU services as the stroke and interventional programs grow. There are 6 Henry Ford Neurosurgeons on site who are able to offer full neurosurgical support. This position offers the potential for academic endeavors, including a teaching role with medical students, neurology residents, and vascular neurology fellows. There is an on-campus rehab hospital.

Supported by community Neurologists as well as the HFHS Departments of Neurology, Neurosurgery, and Radiology there is a tremendous potential for program growth and most importantly, to have an impact on the neurological health of the community.  Henry Ford Macomb Hospital delivers comprehensive, advanced care to Macomb County residents which includes: 361-bed Henry Ford Macomb Hospital in Clinton Township, with nationally-recognized quality, 24-hour emergency care, stroke and chest pain centers, and comprehensive cancer, women’s, orthopedic and cardiovascular care; and 86-bed Henry Ford Macomb - Mt. Clemens Campus with inpatient, outpatient, and emergency psychiatric services. Five health centers in Bruce Township, Washington Township, Richmond, Fraser, and Chesterfield Township offer a variety of outpatient and primary care services.

The Henry Ford Health System’s Department of Neurology has over 50 Neurologists and has been a leader in pioneering new treatments for stroke and critical care and is recognized worldwide for its laboratory, translational, and clinical research. Henry Ford’s Neuroscience Institute is one of the largest and most active medically and surgically in the Midwest, offering the most advanced neurologic medical and surgical therapies.  Henry Ford Hospital has been recognized by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) as a designated stroke center for over 20 years.

Our Department of Neurology has a long tradition of excellence in stroke care.  We were the coordinating center for the groundbreaking prospective randomized 1995 NINDS tPA Stroke Trial that showed the efficacy and safety of tPA within 3 hours of stroke onset.  Our Stroke team provides integrated care at Henry Ford Hospital, a Joint Commission Comprehensive Stroke Center with AHA/ASA Gold Plus and Target Stroke Honor Roll Elite status.  Our HF West Bloomfield Hospital is a Thrombectomy-Capable Stroke Center and has a Gold Elite status. Our three other hospitals are Primary Stroke Centers with HF Macomb and HF Allegiance hospitals having Gold Plus and Target Stroke Honor Roll Elite status and HF Wyandotte Hospital having Silver Plus status.

As an academic program, we are active in clinical trials and neurology research. All centers within the Henry Ford Neuroscience Institute conduct research, with a major focus on translational research to fast track scientific discovery from bench to bedside.  This subspecialty academic practice position also offers the potential for a tenure-track academic appointment for those who qualify, through Wayne State University - School of Medicine and Michigan State University - College of Human Medicine.
