Description

 

The Department of Neurology in the Renaissance School of Medicine at Stony Brook University seeks candidates to lead the new Center for Headache Medicine. The full-time position is suited for a headache specialist at either the Assistant or Associate Professor level and is not tenure-eligible. In this role, the Director will lead new and innovative clinical, educational, and research programs and grow an inter-professional team equipped to provide the latest care and treatment options for all headache and facial pain syndromes. Applicants must have a strong interest in supporting the academic vision of the department and possess academic credentials for a faculty appointment at the appropriate rank.

 

Stony Brook University Hospital is a 624-bed tertiary care facility with a catchment area of 1.5 M residents. It is also home to the only Comprehensive Stroke Center, Level IV Epilepsy Center, 20-bed Neurological Critical Care Unit (NCCU), and Level I trauma center in Suffolk County. The Department of Neurology has established the Division of Neurohospital Medicine, which oversees the general inpatient and consultative services. The vascular neurology team and interventionalists handle onsite and mobile stroke alerts. Our faculty lead several nationally recognized, highly regarded outpatient subspecialty centers in Neuromuscular Medicine, Neuroimmunology, Epilepsy, and Movement Disorders. Ancillary services include MRI/PET capabilities, EEG, EMG/ NCV, and infusion therapy.

 

This is an exciting opportunity for a neurologist interested in building an outpatient practice at the region's premier academic medical center. Faculty can also take advantage of an exceptional retirement plan offered through the SUNY403(b) and NYS Deferred Compensation Plans.

 

Responsibilities include:

 

• Collaboration with allied specialties, including anesthesia/pain management, behavioral medicine, and ENT.

• Oversight of the recruitment, mentoring, and clinical activity of MD and APP members of the headache practice.

• Teaching and mentoring fellows, residents, APPs, and medical students.

• Limited inpatient call responsibilities on the General Neurology inpatient and consult services shared amongst practice members.

 

Qualifications

 

Required Qualifications:

 

• MD degree or equivalent.

• Eligibility for New York State licensure.

• Board Certified/Board Eligible in Neurology.

• Must have completed an accredited Neurology Headache fellowship.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

• Experience performing procedures such as Botox, Trigger Point Injections, Occipital Nerve Blocks, SPG Blocks.

• Experience working in a fast-paced, high-volume outpatient environment.
