Staff Clinician in the Section of Infections of the Nervous System

The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) is seeking an outstanding neurologist to serve as a Staff Clinician in the Section of Infections of the Nervous System within the Division of Neuroimmunology and Neurovirology in the Division of Intramural Research (DIR). Staff Clinicians in NINDS conduct basic, translational, and clinical research, provide care for patients at the NIH Clinical Center, train junior investigators, and collaborate within NINDS and across other institutes and extramural collaborators.  More detailed information about the NINDS Division of Intramural Research may be found at: https://dir.ninds.nih.gov/ninds/Home.html

Staff Clinicians can have a wide range of responsibilities relating to oversight of a clinical intramural research program. The Staff Clinician will lead the Clinical research program in the Section of Infections of the Nervous System and will be responsible for providing clinical care and consultation on patients who demonstrate neurologic complications of rare neuroinflammatory, neuroinfectious diseases and emerging infections.  This includes management of HIV clinical research protocols. Duties include development of laboratory and/or clinical research protocols, collaborative research efforts with investigators in the Division of Neuroimmunology and Neurovirology and across NINDS, mentorship and education of trainees, data analysis and evaluation, and publication of results.

The successful candidates must be an M.D./D.O. or M.D./Ph.D. and be a board-certified neurologist with relevant training or clinical and research experience in neuroimmunology and/or neuroinfectious diseases; hold a permanent, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a state, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States; and meet the requirements to be clinically credentialed at the NIH Clinical Center.  

Salary will be commensurate with experience. A full civil service package of benefits (including retirement, health, life and long-term care insurance, Thrift Savings Plan, etc.) is available.
