The Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) is pleased to announce the national search for its next Chair of the Department of Neurology. With robust infrastructure, resource commitments and world-class neuroscience support, we believe this role to be one of the top leadership roles available in academic neurology. 

The Department of Neurology at the Medical College of Wisconsin is the largest and most comprehensive Neurology group in the state of Wisconsin and is composed of four divisions:  Adult Neurology, Child Neurology, Neuropsychology and Stroke/Neurointervention/Critical Care.  The Department boasts over 70 faculty who are locally, nationally, and internationally recognized for their excellence in clinical care, research, and education in all areas of Neurology and Neuropsychology.  Our clinical programs provide extraordinary, specialized care for the spectrum of Neurological disorders for all stages of life, from birth to geriatrics.  Some of the existing programs in the Department include:

  • The ALS Program at Froedtert Hospital is designated a Center of Excellence by the ALS Association since 2006 and remains top tier center for patient care, education, and research.
  • Largest number of headache medicine providers for any institution in Wisconsin with 4 board-certified headache medicine physicians, 1 advanced practice providers, and a pain psychologist.
  • The Child Neurology program is largest in Wisconsin with specialists in neurogenetics, epilepsy, brain tumors, neurocritical care, neonatal neurology, and neuromuscular medicine. 
  • Both the Froedtert Hospital Comprehensive Epilepsy Program and the Children’s Wisconsin Epilepsy Program are accredited by the NAEC as Level 4 epilepsy centers.
  • Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus (NPH) Program established in 2009 and is the only program in the state.  Program serves patients in Wisconsin, northern Illinois, and Iowa.
  • MCW Neurology faculty are world leaders in research.  The Language Imaging Laboratory, directed by Dr. Jeffrey Binder, has been continuously funded by the NIH for over 25 years.
  • MS Center is designated as a Partner in Care by the National MS Society and is a member of the Consortium of MS Centers.
  • The Neuromuscular Diseases Program at MCW is one of the few such programs in the country to perform and read their muscle biopsies.  Child neurology was instrumental in advocating for increase newborn screening at state level, resulting in earlier diagnosis and state of the art therapies for degenerative congenital disease.  The new and state-of-the-art Froedtert Hospital electroneuromyographic (EMG) laboratory is certified by the American Association of Neuromuscular and Electrodiagnostic Medicine (AANEM). 
  • The Movement Disorders Program at MCW is a nationally renowned comprehensive program offering patients the latest medical, surgical, and rehabilitative treatments as well as clinical trial and other research opportunities.
  • Froedtert Hospital is a Comprehensive Stroke Center designated by The Joint Commission with 7 specialists in vascular neurology.
  • Neuropsychology is often the final common pathway for CW patients with any brain-based impact on cognitive, emotional, psychological, and academic functioning.  This is especially true for patients seen in the Neurosciences, but also within other services including Genetics, Hematology-Oncology, our Herma Heart Institute, and Psychiatry.
  • ACGME accredited residency training programs in Adult and Child Neurology and fellowships in Neuropsychology, Neuroimmunology, Clinical Neurophysiology, Epilepsy, Headache, Vascular Neurology, NeuroEndovascular Surgery, Movement Disorders and Neurocritical Care.
  • Strong culture of mentorship for students, residents, fellows and faculty to foster growth in all areas of the academic mission.
