Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner  - (220000FZ)

  

The University of Maryland School of Medicine, Department of Neurology is seeking a Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner (CRNP) with specialty in behavioral health to work within the Clinical Center for Adults with Neuro-Developmental Disorders (CCAND) located at the University of Maryland Rehabilitation and Orthopedics Institute (UMROI). 

In this position, the CRNP will function with significant practice autonomy, providing independent care in their practice, with 4-6 sessions of patient care per week. The CRNP should have some experience with EPIC electronic medical record software. This position will interface with the Maryland Epilepsy Center and the Department of Neurology faculty. The CRNP will participate in bi-weekly patient care and administrative meetings. The selected candidate will work closely with physician leadership in the daily management and care of adults with autism, intellectual disability, and epilepsy and in general the provision of health care for a patient population identified by licensure. The selected candidate will independently practice ambulatory, or acute care as primary or secondary provider in clinical practice settings. The selected candidate will develop and track workflow policies, recruitment strategy, and progress through the duration of the research study or clinical trial. There is the possibility of travel to national meetings and conferences. 

The CCAND functions to evaluate and provide comprehensive care to adult individual with autism, intellectual disability, and epilepsy. The candidate should have experience and familiarity with psychiatric care approaches including pharmacotherapy, medication management, and cognitive and behavioral therapy, as well as working with adults with epilepsy and autism.

Primary Duties:

  • Work closely with physician leadership in the daily management and care of adults with autism, intellectual disability, and epilepsy and in general the provision of health care for a patient population identified by licensure. Independently practices ambulatory, or acute care as primary or secondary provider in clinical practice settings. Develops and tracks work flow policies, recruitment strategy, and progress through the duration of the research study or clinical trial.
  • Assesses, diagnoses, treats, and manages acute episodic and chronic illnesses and patient health, and provides diagnostic and therapeutic services for adults with autism, intellectual disability and epilepsy in an outpatient setting. Exercises autonomy in medical decision making. Ensures informed consent is properly secured and documented.
  • Orders, performs, supervises, and interprets biologic laboratory and diagnostic tests, therapeutic, and corrective measures within the practice of area of specialization as certified. In accordance with state guidelines, may prescribe pharmacological agents and non-pharmacologic therapies during studies and trials.
  • Creates a cohesive work team that works collaboratively to achieve clinical care goals. Assists with the recruitment, performance, and scheduling of team members and continually reviews strengths and weaknesses of staff to maintain a well-trained, highly involved, and motivated team. Instructs and trains nursing staff in clinical care approaches.
  • Establish, maintain, and improve lines of communication between members of the clinical team. Fosters a cooperative relationship between the members of the clinical care team and support staff by communicating information; responding to requests; building rapport; participation in team problem-solving methods.

Qualifications

  

Education: Master's in Nursing or Doctorate in Nursing.

Experience: Current national certification from AANPNCB or other national certifying body (requires 18 months under a NP mentor before becoming certified) is required.
