Director, Division of Neurocritical Care

The Department of Neurosurgery, led by Shabbar Danish, MD, and The Department of Neurology, led by Dr. Alan Colicchio, MD at Jersey Shore University Medical Center (JSUMC), a major academic medical center within the Hackensack Meridian Health Network (HMH), seeks a full time Director of the Division of Neurocritical Care to enhance its neurocritical care services commensurate with a major expansion of its surgical & critical care infrastructure. The successful candidate will have completed a residency in Neurology and a UCNS accredited fellowship in Neurocritical Care.

The candidate will lead a Neurocritical Care Program to support the Comprehensive Neuroscience Institute. They are expected to work creatively and collaboratively to guide this effort to new heights of excellence and grow the program. JSUMC is the destination quaternary care hospital in Monmouth and Ocean counties that is part of the Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine & the HMH network. JSUMC has over 2,000 neuroscience admissions a year, among these over 800 for stroke (many transferred from affiliated Primary Stroke Centers), and over 1,000 neurosurgical procedures incl. complex spine, epilepsy, neuro-oncology, neurotrauma, functional, neurovascular and pediatric neurosurgery. The Departments of Neurosurgery and Neurology feature 40+ sub-specialized providers. The Comprehensive Stroke Center, The NAEC Comprehensive Epilepsy Center, Level 1 Trauma Center, and elective neurosurgical procedures feed the busy neurocritical care service. There are opportunities for teaching medical students, internal medicine, neurology, neurosurgery & nurse practitioner residents.

The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications: 

  • Excellent clinical skills
  • Fellowship trained in Neurocritical Care
  • Board Certified in Neurology; Board Certified in Neurocritical Care
  • Ability to obtain professional licensure, DEA and CDS licenses in New Jersey
  • Track record of leadership in Neurocritical Care in a major medical center
  • Track record of teaching medical students and residents
  • Track record of scholarship
  • Eligibility for a faculty appointment at Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine; faculty rank commensurate with experience & publication record
