Position description

The Department of Neurology and Neurosurgery is inviting applications for a full-time position as a member of the Contract Academic Staff at the rank of Assistant Professor (Clinical).  The professorial rank will be according to the candidate’s qualifications and experience. This will be a three-year, renewable appointment and does not confer eligibility for tenure.

The candidate will be appointed to clinical practice at the St-Mary’s Hospital, CIUSSS de l’Ouest-de-l’Ile-de-Montréal.

Members of the Division of Neurology at the St-Mary’s Hospital provide outpatient clinic care in general neurology and in the following subspecialties: movement disorders, demyelinating diseases, cerebrovascular diseases, epilepsy, dementia, neurological complications of medical disease, neurological complications in pregnancy, and neuro-ethics. Members provide Emergency Department consultation service as well as inpatient consultation service to the hospital coming from the following departments: internal medicine, surgery, oncology, obstetrics, family medicine, geriatrics and psychiatry.

Job Duties

The successful candidate will contribute to a strong interdisciplinary clinical and research program in general neurology at McGill University. They will be expected to be actively involved in all aspects of McGill’s academic mission (teaching, research, supervision of graduate students, and involvement in academic and administrative committees). They will provide excellent clinical teaching and supervision to diverse residents and medical students, and are expected to pursue scholarly activities in advancing clinical care or clinical research in the area of general neurology.

McGill faculty members are expected to contribute to service activities within their units, the University, and the wider scholarly community. A demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion is also expected.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

•             Applicants will have advanced training and the demonstrated capacity to excel in academic neurology, as  well as strong medical education skills and a well-defined research program.

•             Applicants must hold or be eligible for licensure as a neurologist in the province of Quebec.

•             Specialization in demyelinating disease would be an asset.
