Job Details

Maine Medical Partners Neurology is seeking a sixth full-time board certified/eligible Neurologist to join our neurohospitalist team.  Fellowship training/special interest in vascular neurology or neurohospitalist experience would be welcome but is not required.

Primary inpatient responsibilities are at Maine Medical Center (MMC), the state’s leading tertiary care hospital and Level 1 Trauma Center, and the major neurological and neurosurgical referral center for Maine and Eastern New Hampshire.  MMC has 637 licensed beds and admits roughly one thousand ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke patients per year.  Inpatient neurology is a teaching service with an expanding Neurology residency started in 2020, rotating Tufts University Medical School students, and MMC Internal medicine and Psychiatry residents.

The Neurohospitalist program covers all general and vascular neurology consultations at Maine Medical Center as well as telestroke consultations at our eight satellite telestroke sites. Inpatient shifts are approximately fourteen 12-hour shifts per month and are assisted by daytime nurse practitioner coverage in addition to the neurology residents, rotating residents and fellows from other services, and medical students.

We are a Comprehensive Stroke Center. Our Neurohospitalist staff consists of three Vascular Neurologists, a Neuro-infectious disease specialist, and a Neuro-critical Care Neurologist, and three neuro-endovascular specialists who provide 24/7 coverage for interventional stroke therapy.

The Neurology Division consists of 21 physicians, including 4 Pediatric Neurologists, 9 Advanced Practice Providers, on-site MRI and a Neurodiagnostic lab. The Neurology group has been a premiere site for neurologic care in Maine since 1988.  The practice works closely with the Neuroscience Institute at Maine Medical Center to further develop the Neuroscience Centers of Excellence which supports the initiatives of our Stroke, Epilepsy, Movement Disorders and Multiple Sclerosis programs.  The practice includes opportunities both to teach medical students and residents and to pursue research through the Maine Medical Center Research Institute.

The successful candidate will be employed by Maine Medical Partners (MMP), a subsidiary of Maine Medical Center and Maine’s largest multi-specialty group, serving the health care needs of patients throughout Maine and Northern New England.  This high quality team of 600 physicians and 350 advanced practice professionals provides a wide range of hospital based, primary, specialty, and sub-specialty adult and pediatric care delivered throughout a network of 54 locations across the State, acting as a regional referral network.

Situated on the Maine coast, Portland offers the best of urban sophistication combined with small-town friendliness.  The area provides four season recreational opportunities, such as skiing, hiking, sailing, and miles of beautiful beaches.  Just two hours north of Boston, this is an exceptionally diverse and vibrant community.
