Chair of Neurology
The University of Missouri School of Medicine is seeking outstanding candidates for the position of Chair of Neurology. The incoming Chair will have opportunities to advance the department in all facets of the tripartite mission – providing strategic vision and innovative leadership which results in the recruitment and retention of outstanding faculty, growth and expansion of departmental research efforts, enhanced clinical services, and continued excellence in medical student and resident/fellow education and training. In collaboration with other departments, the Chair will provide leadership for the growth and development of a fully integrated neurosciences service line. The Chair of Neurology reports to the Dean, MU School of Medicine.
MU Health is the leading provider of neurology services for 22 counties in central Missouri, and demand for services is strong. Department of Neurology subspecialties include neuromuscular, sleep medicine, stroke, epilepsy, movement disorders, dementia, multiple sclerosis, neuro-ICU and general neurology. The highly regarded neurology residency program welcomes six trainees a year.
Department research and scholarly activity work is robust. The Department's research team includes approximately 15 scientists, technicians, and clinical research nurses. The Department looks forward to having additional neurosciences research faculty in MU’s new NextGen Precision Health building set to open in October 2021, with the vision to accelerate innovations in precision health that improve health outcomes for Missourians and people around the globe.
MU is one of the few institutions in the country with colleges of Medicine, Veterinary Medicine, Agriculture, Engineering, Law, Nursing, and Health Professions on one campus. The MU School of Medicine has 16 clinical and 5 basic science departments, with more than 675 faculty physicians and scientists who educate and train more than 1,000 medical students, residents, and fellows. University of Missouri Health Care offers one of the most comprehensive health care networks in Missouri, including five hospitals and 496 staffed beds. MU Health has implemented a shared governance model linking leadership of the hospitals and the School of Medicine, providing an integrated approach to strategic planning and operations that incorporates the tripartite mission of patient care, education and scientific discovery.

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA
Certification (and ideally subspecialty certification) by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN) or equivalent with:
- A distinguished academic career including a leadership role within a multifaceted academic neurology department.
- A highly regarded basic, translational, and/or clinical research background, with track record of scholarly achievements, extramural funding and peer-reviewed publications.
- Clinical achievement, scholarly accomplishments, leadership aptitude and experience commensurate with appointment to the faculty at the rank of Professor.
- A strong commitment to continued diversification of the faculty and trainees of the department, especially regarding recruitment and retention of women and under-represented minorities.
