Barrow Neurological Institute (BNI) is in search of a Chair for the Department of Neurology. Recognized as one of the world’s leading and largest neurosciences institutes, Barrow consistently ranks as one of the best centers in the USA for neurological care, training, and research. The Neurology Department is comprised of over 45 faculty in 11 subspecialties who work closely with more than 30 neurosurgeons and 30 research scientists in a facility that is uniquely state-of-the-art, with a 64-bed Neuro-ICU, 12-bed inpatient Epilepsy Monitoring Unit, and two mobile stroke units. The Muhammad Ali Parkinson Center, Ivy Brain Tumor Center, Gregory W. Fulton ALS Center, Petznick Stroke Center, Sonntag Spine Center, and the Center for Transitional Neuro-Rehabilitation are located on one integrated campus in the heart of Phoenix, Arizona. The department trains 28 residents, has 12 specialty fellowship programs, and teaches medical students from University of Arizona and Creighton University. BNI is the top neurology referral center in the Southwest and a world-class destination center for international neurology and neurosurgical patients, with over 77,000 patients treated and over 6,000 neurosurgeries performed annually. The Institute is also home to more than 320 open clinical trials and is one of a handful of sites in the nation that is a part of NeuroNEXT. It receives over $12M annually in NIH grant funding and the Barrow Neurological Foundation contributes another $20M annually in internal grant funding – all of which makes BNI a leader in clinical research and education.

We are seeking an individual with proven leadership skills, an outstanding record of academic accomplishment, dedication to clinical excellence, and a commitment to education and translational research. Strong organizational and administrative skills are essential. This person must have a creative vision to help shape the future of a dynamic department that will have national/international stature. This person must work well with neurosurgeons and synergize with strengths in vascular, tumor, and functional neurosurgery. Candidates with specialization in stroke neurology, neuro-critical care, neuro-oncology, and movement disorders are encouraged to apply.
