The Department of Neurology at UNC

The School of Medicine at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill is consistently rated among the top public academic research medical centers in the United States. The Department of Neurology provides the neurological expertise to support the School’s three-part mission of teaching, research, and patient care. The Department has more than 45 faculty with broad subspecialty representation in epilepsy, sleep disorders, movement disorders, neuromuscular diseases, cerebrovascular diseases, pediatric neurological disorders, behavioral neurology, and dementia.

Cognitive/Behavioral Neurologist – The UNC Division of Cognitive Neurology/Memory Disorders is seeking a full-time faculty member.  This is a fixed-term appointment at the Assistant Professor to Full Professor level.  This academic appointment requires providing tertiary clinical services, participating in clinical research activities, and teaching residents, fellows, and medical students the principles of cognitive and behavioral neurology. The primary responsibility will be evaluating and managing patients across the spectrum of neurocognitive disorders in the UNC Memory Disorders Clinic. Clinical responsibilities will also include rotations on the Neurology Consult service and staffing the Neurology Resident Clinic. Our expanding Division includes 3 neurologists, 2 APPs, a neuropsychologist and dedicated nursing and psychometry support. A wealth of research opportunities are provided by established programs in NIH-sponsored research consortia participation involving Dementia with Lewy bodies and Frontotemporal Degeneration. The division has also been designated a Research Center of Excellence by the Lewy Body Dementia Association. An expanding portfolio of clinical trial opportunities in Alzheimer’s disease and related disorders, several collaborations with a robust and research-intensive Division of Geriatrics, and access to state-of-the-art neuroimaging facilities.  Dedicated teaching at all levels and participation in clinical research and extramural scholarly activities is expected.  

Income Package:  A negotiable income package is offered and is based upon Academic rank and level of Academic experience. UNC offers a superior benefits and retirement program along with relocation and other incentives.

Position Requirements - To qualify candidates must possess Candidate should possess an M.D. or equivalent degree and have completed both a ACGME certified Neurology residency and a Behavioral Neurology & Neuropsychiatry, Geriatric Neurology, or equivalent Fellowship. The candidate must also be able to obtain/hold a North Carolina medical license.    **A sub-specialty research interest is highly desirable**
