The Institute seeks better understanding, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of neurological disorders and fosters the training of investigators in neuroscience and neurological research.  The NINDS disseminates its research results through outreach programs that are targeted to patients, professionals, and the general public and leverages outside resources through partnerships and collaboration with other Federal entities, the biomedical community, research institutions, professional associations, international, national, state, and local governments, and voluntary agencies.  The Deputy Director for Scientific Management and Operations will report to the Director, NINDS and supervise approximately 71 professional staff.
